Hard Rock
Originally from New York City, Alex Kemp likes to mix his art and his rock. He spent most of final years at the Rhode Island School of Design on tour with the seminal indie band Small factory. Later, in Chicago, he was in the electro rock band Assassins. After only ten shows the band was signed to Arista Records and opened for New Order. But all was not set in stone and the band eventually parted ways.
Alex found himself in LA dreaming of 1920′s Paris. He had this to say about the name of the new series of EP’s: “Rat D’Hotel? Rat’s a good guy, down on his luck. His rich parents have cut him off and he’s slinking around Parisian hotels where American expats like Hemingway and Gertrude Stein hang out. He looks both ways and sneaks dinner rolls off tables. I think these EPs are trying to tell his story, or at least the part of his story that would be remembered now, in this totally different era, now that everything’s changed.”
Over the next three EP’s in the series Alex is exploring this character and we get to benefit from the raw, unpolished tracks he’s producing in pursuit of the Rat D’Hotel.
